Sam sets the vision for Level EX and its products. He has spent his entire career leading teams and companies at the cutting-edge of the video game industry. Sam’s mission is to unleash the latest visual effects and engagement methodologies from the video game industry into the field of medicine. Before Level EX, Sam was CEO of the leading independent game publisher in Hollywood, acquired by Playtech (PTEC) in 2016.

Sam Glassenberg

Founder & CEO

Sam sets the vision for Level EX and its products. He has spent his entire career leading teams and companies at the cutting-edge of the video game industry. Sam’s mission is to unleash the latest visual effects and engagement methodologies from the video game industry into the field of medicine. Before Level EX, Sam was CEO of the leading independent game publisher in Hollywood, acquired by Playtech (PTEC) in 2016. Under his leadership, the company created award-winning mobile games for tens of millions of players based on popular films, including The Hunger Games and Mission: Impossible. Earlier in his career, Sam led the DirectX team at Microsoft and was responsible for pushing the visual limits of video games across the industry. His team’s graphics work at Microsoft resulted in a prestigious Technical Emmy for their contribution to the state-of-the-art in interactive entertainment. Sam established his roots at LucasArts working on leading games for Star Wars films.

Over the last decade, Sam has leveraged his game development expertise to pioneer the creation of award-winning medical simulations. These training tools have attracted hundreds of thousands of users and garnered support from top academic hospitals.

Sam’s name is featured on several technology patents, popular video game titles, and he has been the recipient of numerous industry awards. He currently sits on major video game and technology advisory boards, including Intel and Microsoft. Sam holds an M.S. in Computer Science, Graphics from Stanford University, and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois.

Why Level EX

Sam grew up in a family of physicians – and would have been a 3rd generation doctor had he not chosen a career in the video game industry. Over the last 15 years, Sam has leveraged video game development tools to create one-of-a-kind medical simulations to help family members, attending physicians at academic hospitals, train their residents and medical students. As he delved deeper, he realized that the state-of-the-art in entertainment and video games was a decade ahead of surgical training – not only in terms of visual quality, but in engagement methodology and business/distribution models as well.

Sam created Level EX to close that gap. His experiences shaped his mission to improve surgical outcomes by preparing physicians for the unexpected, rare, and challenging surgical scenarios they face in the operating room.

Genevieve leads Level EX’s marketing and content strategy functions targeting physician, medical device/pharmaceutical, technology, and investor audiences. She manages the company’s advisory board, institutional relationships, and CME partnerships. She brings over 18 years of experience launching and growing technology, healthcare, and CPG brands from startups to public corporations. She thrives on the challenge of creating a brand from scratch or helping established companies experience exponential growth through marketing.

Genevieve Paquette

Chief Marketing Officer

Genevieve leads Level EX’s marketing and content strategy functions targeting physician, medical device/pharmaceutical, technology, and investor audiences. She manages the company’s advisory board, institutional relationships, and CME partnerships. She brings over 18 years of experience launching and growing technology, healthcare, and CPG brands from startups to public corporations. She thrives on the challenge of creating a brand from scratch or helping established companies experience exponential growth through marketing.

Genevieve’s passion for advancing physician knowledge and training was defined during her role as Head of Physician Marketing at WebMD. She led a 25-person team and owned initiatives that positioned WebMD’s professional brand, Medscape, as the leading brand for healthcare professionals. Genevieve and her team launched the Medscape app to a multi-year #1 ranking on iOS and Android, grew physician market share to 2/3 of U.S. physicians with high volume engagement across 20+ medical specialties, and managed the brand’s expansion into global markets engaging millions of physicians across 4 continents.

Genevieve has held roles as VP of Marketing at Welltok, one of the fastest growing healthcare startups in the country, agency positions focused on product development, behavioral marketing, and media planning for brands including Microsoft Health, GlaxoSmithKline, Warner Brothers, Adobe, and Oracle, and marketing consulting roles for a variety of digital health companies. She holds bachelor degrees in both Marketing and Communication Design from the State University of New York.

Why Level EX

Genevieve wholeheartedly believes that impacting patient care begins with the physician. Consumers expect a level of knowledge and experience with their physician that can’t be found elsewhere. A poorly-trained physician can have devastating repercussions. She believes video games can be used as a powerful tool to facilitate learning with the ability to change the way surgeons train on procedures – meaning better outcomes for patients.

Itay leads game design, user experience, and in-game physics for Level EX’s mobile apps. He analyzes the cognitive components of Level EX’s products, including level of challenge, complexity, and effectiveness for the physician audience.

Itay Keren

Lead Design Engineer

Itay is a world-renowned game designer, creator of popular independent games played by millions of users, including Mushroom 11 and Rope Rescue. Itay leads game design, user experience, and in-game physics for Level EX’s mobile apps. He analyzes the cognitive components of Level EX’s products, including level of challenge, complexity, and effectiveness for the physician audience.

Itay holds over 20 years of game design and engineering management experience, including the role of CTO of ICQ (AOL) and lead game designer at Oberon Media. Not long after founding Brooklyn-based indie game studio Untame, he solidified his place in the video game industry as an award-winning game designer, programmer, and author. He has spoken and presented at numerous universities and industry events, including multiple engagements at the biggest video game conference in the world, GDC.

Swarna Chatterjee, PharmD

He leads business development efforts, and works closely with medical device and pharmaceutical companies on partnership initiatives. Swarna’s had a successful, award-winning career in the healthcare space for more than 15 years, and enjoys the unbridled enthusiasm of a startup.

Swarna Chatterjee, PharmD

Swarna brings a wealth of industry knowledge and a successful track record managing multi-million dollar portfolios to Level EX. Swarna’s had a successful, award-winning career in the healthcare space for more than 15 years, and enjoys the unbridled enthusiasm of a startup.

Before Level EX, Swarna was Vice President, Business Development and Product Marketing at Doximity, the largest social network for physicians. There, he showcased his ability to market strategically to a challenging industry. Prior to Doximity, he was Sales Director at QualityHealth, the leading performance-based marketing platform in healthcare. Tasked with turning around and securing several million-dollar deals, Swarna mastered how to reposition something that was becoming a commodity solution and aligning it to have a sense of measurability.

His decade-long tenure at Pfizer provided all the benefits that come from working in a large pharmaceutical giant. His work as Senior Marketing Manger for the Lyrica Brand drove the successful implementation and growth of the brand in the market. His experience spans branding, field force marketing, and holding the bag as a pharmaceutical sales rep. He holds a Bachelor’s and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

Jon Cooper

Jon’s philosophy that nothing is more exciting than game development has led to his genuine success in the industry. Jon has the unique ability to effectively execute an exceptional level of quality on every project, every time - this skill has translated well to his role at Level EX, where he oversees project management, content operations, and meta game design. Prior to Level EX, Jon was a Level Designer at Midway Games and Warner Brothers Interactive, and a Lead Designer at Phosphor Games and Darkside Games Studio.

Jon Cooper

Executive Producer

Jon’s philosophy that nothing is more exciting than game development has led to his genuine success in the industry. Jon has the unique ability to effectively execute an exceptional level of quality on every project, every time – this skill has translated well to his role at Level EX, where he oversees project management, content operations, and meta game design. Prior to Level EX, Jon was a Level Designer at Midway Games and Warner Brothers Interactive, and a Lead Designer at Phosphor Games and Darkside Games Studio. His credits include The Path to Luma, FEAR 3, Stranglehold, Borderlands, and more. He was one of the founding members of Darkside’s design team, and focused his efforts on creating technical pipelines and putting together design teams.

Jon holds a BFA in Game Art and Design from the Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago. His experience managing teams and leading game design have been the foundation for his success.

Jon’s interest in watching an industry he loves grow into the medical space is exciting to him. It presents new challenges that keep him on his toes as Executive Producer for the company.

He’s achieved what few others have: the ability to merge his two distinct passions into a successful and creative career. Andy’s skills have proven to be immeasurable as he leads the design and implementation of all core systems and architecture, including learning mechanics at Level EX.

Andy Saia

Lead Software Engineer

Andy comes from the world of art, not programming – it’s what gives him a unique perspective on the video game industry. He’s achieved what few others have: the ability to merge his two distinct passions into a successful and creative career. Andy’s skills have proven to be immeasurable as he leads the design and implementation of all core systems and architecture, including learning mechanics at Level EX.

Before Level EX, Andy held multiple game studio engineering roles at WMS and Phosphor, and built educational products aligning learning objectives with game mechanics for Kaplan Higher Education. He is also a creator of indie games, including Tango Paradise. He has a notable reputation for being able to do a little bit of everything in the space.

Passionate about the gaming community in Chicago, Andy has helped organize some of the largest independent games events in the region, including Bit Bash, a wildly successful games festival with over 1,000 attendees. Andy has a BFA in Time Arts from Northern Illinois University. His work showcases his skills in programming, special effects, tools development, and animation.

With a background in the field of education, Level EX is a fit for Andy. Applying his experience to Level EX means more physicians will be better at what they do, creating a stronger and healthier community. It’s all the ‘what ifs’ that Level EX offers that inspire him.

Ryan is a highly motivated character artist in the video game industry with numerous title credits, including Heroes Reborn, Man of Steel, Horn, WWE Immortals, and World War Z. He is driven by the process of making video games and keeping up with the fast-paced, ever-evolving industry. As head of Level EX’s art team, Ryan oversees the creation of 3D models, animations, visual effects, UI design, and branding for Level EX's mobile apps. Ryan's team is responsible for delivering the ultra-realism seen in Airway EX's simulated anatomy.

Ryan’s team is responsible for delivering the ultra-realism seen in Airway EX’s simulated anatomy. Ryan’s background includes mastery in high frequency sculpting and 3D printing. He holds a B.A. in Interactive Arts and Media from Columbia College in Chicago.

Mel is an inspired and creative jack-of-all-trades researcher with a passion for startups. Mel’s role as Chief of Staff for Level EX involves everything from conducting strategic research initiatives to supporting the executive team. She handles the company’s business operations and ensures that fundamental systems flow. Mel has consulted and advised for numerous early stage startups, held roles within venture capital firms, and helped corporations improve their operational systems and procedures.

With degrees in both Neuroscience and Molecular Genetics, Mel has a rich and extensive background in studying people and data. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her from a scientific path to one where she figured out how to merge her two passions: empirical science and technology.
